FBK-250 blower kit installed in Lennox MPD-3530CPM fireplace

Posted by Cliff Carpenter on 28th Oct 2020

Well, let's start with the challenges because there were thankfully very few. First: this kit assumes that you already have an electrical outlet installed within 18" of your fireplace logs. Luckily, I did - you should check your install before purchasing. Second: the actual install was very simple - but you wouldn't think so based upon the printed directions provided. Sorry guys but these directions are pretty horrible. The most egregious miss was showing clearly where the air was going to vent out from the motor (it vents from the rectangular area of the motor and needs to face upwards). Pictures in the diagrams show the motor placed on both the right and left of your fireplace logs - neither is correct. The motor should be placed at the rear of the fireplace logs. How difficult would it be to stamp or print an "UP" symbol on the motor to indicate proper placement? Other than the 120V A.C. plug, there's only three wires to connect - and would you believe the instructions still didn't make it clear which wire went where? Really - the pictures are most unhelpful. Third: As the directions correctly point out ("visualize where the motor will be placed"), actually inserting this kit into your fireplace and correctly rotating it to ensure that air is blown upwards - can be no mean feat. The directions glibly tell you that you may have to completely remove the metal louvres which cover the entrance to the lower part of you fireplace. Sounds simple enough, right? Ha! Try it... OK - that's all my picky grumbling but I rated this thing five stars right? So something must have gone right. Well, after getting off to a poor start, I eventually figured out what needed to be done. After finally wiggling and jiggling this thing through the opening into the fireplace - the actual placement, hookup, and operation of this kit was simplicity itself. This device worked correctly right out of the box. It doesn't turn on until the fireplace has reach a predetermined temperature (assuming you ALSO remembered to turn the fan speed switch on) - so that you're not initially just blowing cool air into the room. Once the fireplace has reached the predetermined temperature, the fan will start up and its speed will be determined by the position of the rotary switch provided with this kit. When you turn off the fireplace, the blower will continue to scavenge remaining heat from the fireplace until the fireplace temperature has dropped to the blower's predetermined minimum temperature - at which point the blower will shut off. This kit has transformed what has been a mostly "decorative " fireplace, into a real heating device capable of heating a very large open space in my 4500 sq ft home. I'm very pleased with the results - couldn't be happier.

    Mighty Little Blower

We researched a blower for out fire place and found MFB, watched their product/install videos. That was the selling point for us. We live in Florida so our cold months are short. We ordered our blower right around the NewYears thinking it would not arrive for a week or so, that was not the case. I spoke with Jim at MFB he said we should see it by weeks end. We received the blower and installed it in less than 30 minutes. With a few simple wire connections we were up and running. It runs smooth and quiet just as they said.

Easy to hook up and install if u have any problems or don't know anything about it just watch you tube video. It slides in along side and u just hook wires up pretty simple. Use a light to activate the thermal switch once all wires are in place and plugged in to outlet to make sure it runs. Hardest parts is finding hottest spot on bottom of insert to attach switch. Company was great when order took less time to get it and it came packaged well.
